The hero goes about her adventure with gusto, reaching high and seeking next-level experiences. But she finds she often takes wrong turns or gets caught up with too much responsibility or overworking or being distracted or trying too hard to please others, and so she ends up stuck in a tar pit.

THE HARD TRUTH… no one will tell you about reaching your potential and living your dreams.

By Natalie Rivera No more butterflies and rainbows and singing Kumbaya. My deepest fear is to be overflowing with the manifestations of my dreams and feel unfulfilled. … To be surrounded by people I value and feel alone. … To have a life full of activity and feel empty. … To have a life that […]

Finding Purpose in Death

We all have loved ones that come into our lives to help us grow, and sometimes when they leave us the lessons become even more powerful. Many people find it hard to look through the pain of loss to reveal the blessings that often lie within the curse. Don’t get me wrong, I still miss my brother and all the experiences that I would have wanted to share with him, even if I see the greater purpose that he has inspired in my life through his death. As an expression of gratitude, I share this letter to my beloved brother, Daniel.

The Ghost Ship of Irrevocable Choices

Even small decisions dramatically alter our lives, and a decision to do one thing always takes away an opportunity to do something else. Deciding to spend three hours a day on social media or watching TV or paying video games (like most Americans) means giving up the time to go back to school, train for a marathon, write a book, or spend quality time with loved ones. But, no matter how gross the cumulative loss over time, such small daily choices easily can be changed. Each day offers an opportunity to make a new decision; however, not all decisions are created equal.

Give Your Pain a Purpose

We all have pain. It’s inevitable. It’s part of life. But, the first thing I want to get clear is that there’s a difference between pain and suffering. You can always change your point of view.

Stepping Away from the (Stress) Cliff

Imagine you are walking down the sidewalk and you trip. There would be a mild anxiety reaction and you’d recover quickly.

Now, imagine you were walking two feet from the edge of a cliff and you tripped. You would be terrified, and your body would go into complete panic.

Now, imagine a time when you were feeling pretty good—things were going well—and someone you love left dishes on the table or you were stuck in traffic. These situations were mild irritants.

Taking Flight: A Transformation Story

When a caterpillar approaches its time of transformation, it begins to eat ravenously, consuming everything in sight. The caterpillar outgrows its own skin many times, until it is too bloated to move. It turns its world on its head as it attaches itself upside-down to a branch and forms a chrysalis. This gentle encasing limits its freedom and protects it during the duration of the metamorphosis.

Your Hero’s Journey

If you’ve ever watched a move or read a story, you know that at the center of every story is a hero. This hero isn’t usually a superhero who is endowed with super-human powers. In most cases, the hero is an ordinary person who either has to rise to the occasion when life throws them a catastrophe or who has to face their demons in order to create a better life.

Thoughts 101: How Thoughts Create Emotions and Stuff

Emotions aren’t inherently right or wrong. They are your body’s response to what you are thinking—whether you’re thinking consciously or unconsciously. That’s right: thoughts create emotions. Your belief systems and unconscious patterns are often running on autopilot, leading to emotions that feel random or hard to explain.
